ILLIANA NEWS
JULY 2005 ISSUE 6
THANK - YOU!!!
Big thanks to our farmers committee for all the hard work on the crop of oats this year. Through the donation of time, fuel, chemicals, and labor we have the best crop ever! On July 3rd, members cut and shocked most of the east field. The oats are “heavy” and free of weeds. Anyone interested in purchasing them, please bring a wagon or truck to the show. You will need an empty- weight scale ticket before loading up. NOTE TO ED GRUBB: “HEADS - UP!!”
Another big thanks goes to Tom Swanson. Tom has made and stained new benches to set around the grounds.
REMINDERS FOR THE SHOW:
EXHIBITORS: Exhibitors need to un-load at the west edge of the parking lot and drive along the side of the R.R. tracks to the north-east corner by the saw mill. The east side drive will be closed off.
FRIDAY NIGHT POT-LUCK SUPPER: Don Bodine will have his steam engine “fired-up” to cook sweet corn, potatoes, hot dogs and brats. Please bring a dish to pass. Plan to spend Friday evening and enjoy some good food!
PIES, CAKES, COOKIES, ETC.: The ladies will be selling pies again this year and would like everyone to donate at least two fruit pies. Cakes, cookies, cobblers, and candy are big sellers also. Please be generous and donate! This is a good money maker for our club and we appreciate all donations. Also, help is needed at the tent....if you can, please work behind the table for an hour or two.
FLOWERS: In the past our show grounds have “sprung to life” with an array of flowers. We’d like members to loan us your prettiest pots of plants to set around for everyone to enjoy! Show us your “GREEN THUMBS!!”
WRIST BANDS:
Wrist bands will be used during the show as follows:
Exhibitors - Blue (2 per person)
Club Members - Orange
Friday Attendance - Red
Saturday Attendance - Yellow
Sunday Attendance - Green
Anyone without a wrist band should be stopped and questioned.
DUTCH OVEN COOK-OFF:
An added feature this year will be a Dutch Oven Cook-off held on Saturday. Categories are:
MEAT AND MAIN DISHES, VEGETABLES, BREADS, AND DESERTS. Bring your recipe written on an 8 ½ x 11
sheet. Judging will begin at 3:00 P.M.
by peoples choice. Any one can
enter...not just club members. Practice

(Samples at the pot-luck dinner anyone?)
Any questions call Kenny Campfield at

CAMPING:
If you plan to camp during the show, you need to contact Charlie Lupinek for a space at 765-589-8366. Camping will be $25.00 . Get your space reserved now...they are filling up fast!
WORK DAYS - JULY 9TH AND 10TH:
There’s a lot to do before the show: The club house needs cleaning, mow and stripe the parking lot, Roy Bryant needs help putting signs along the highways, Alan Stuttler need help with repairs to the threshing machine, picnic tables and benches need to be moved around the grounds, etc. Please try and help all that you can. Of course if you can’t be there on the 9th and 10th and can make it through the week just look around and do what you can
BLACKSMITHS:
The blacksmith group met on June 18th at the Independence Heritage Festival. There were about
18 members present with their forges and anvils. We made several things for sale to support the
Heritage Festival group, which in turns puts nearly all their funds into the blacksmith shop. We
all had a good time and are looking forward to our next event, which will be the Illiana Show. The group continues to meet for work days on the West Point Cemetery arch and the Independence blacksmith shop bellows restoration. You are invited to stop by Ted’s shop and see these projects in the making. The arch is quite a piece of work. It is big and it is heavy!! Be sure to support the Blacksmith group by purchasing raffle tickets for the Millermatic (MIG) wire welder. Also don’t forget to buy your tickets for the quarter beef, Lionel train, and the pedal tractor. Someone has to win and you cannot win without a ticket! Ted Stout
CHURCH SERVICE:
Plan to attend the church service on Sunday morning at 8:30 A.M. This year our preacher will be Derrick Jackson from Veedersburg, In.
